... and another one down, and another one down. Another year bites the dust!
Gotcha singing it now, huh?
We have been partying here tonight! We had hamburgers for dinner and have been playing Mario and doing hair all night.
Now for the frustrating news. I took Carter into the doctor today. He's had a bad cold, but along with that a high fever, diarrhea and totally lethargic for days. But to complicate things, the diarrhea has been going on for a while, and a few weeks ago he had blood in his diaper.
So the PA we saw was so frustrating. After telling him Carter's history, he told me that it sounded like nothing was wrong with Carter and that it is normal for toddlers to have diarrhea. I argued with him! I am not normally a person to do that, but it really shocked me that he would say it was normal!
He then told me (after not backing down) that we could do some tests to rule out that there was anything wrong with him: an ultrasound, after that a biopsy of some kind and then a colonoscopy.
He pulled up the test results from the beginning of this year when they took his blood and tested it for allergies. All of those tests had come back negative by the way, even though he had not been on gluten when they tested him which he has to be for the test to work properly.
This PA kept going on and on about how this is totally normal and how he is not allergic to any food AT ALL.
You know, I'm totally open to the possibility of Carter not being allergic to any food, but then at least try to help me figure out why he has had diarrhea for a year!!
I don't know what I'm going to do, but I'm pretty sure I am totally done with that office.
Doctors are stupid. I speak from experience. :) After a persistent pain in my side for over a year, I went to the dr, he ran tests and had a CT scan done. Then he told me the only thing I needed to do was take a laxative. Several of them, actually, to completely clean me out. I thought this was odd, considering the pain had been there for months and months, but I was fully committed to doing whatever he said, so I followed his advice. Meanwhile, CT scans and dr visits aren't cheap. Hundreds of dollars later, the pain continues in my side and I have absolutely no confidence in going back to that doctor again. Especially since he was sitting there googling my symptoms as I told them to him. I could have just done that at home! The guy obviously thought I was being a hypochondriac. But I know what is normal for my body and what isn't, and having pain so bad that I want to rip out my organs with my fingers is not normal. So trust your gut (haha, pun intended).
ReplyDeleteMy pain has subsided recently (thanks to nothing the dr did), so unless something explodes inside me I guess I'm dealing with this myself. But you know what's normal and what's not for Carter and the rest of your kids, so don't let any doctor tell you you're overreacting. There, done with my soapbox. Good luck.
Just wanted to clarify, because I think I contradicted myself there when I was talking about the pain in my side. To be clear, it comes and goes recently. Sometimes it's awful, sometimes I don't have it for a month or two. Sorry I made it confusing.
